Known by many as the 'Moustachioed MC', the 'Jolly Old Walrus', the 'Big Bass' and the 'Master Wordsmith', we know him simply as 'Cleavie'.
One of the founding members of the FFs and the deliverer of many a quality joke, story or yarn between songs, Jon is the most commonly recognisable member of the band. This does mean that he gets stopped the most when we're away on tour for a 'selfie' or a quick chat, while the rest of the band get to sneak off to the local ale house.
Jon is a keen songwriter and along with Billy wrote and recorded the album 'First & Last' under the name 'Roscarrock'. He enjoys researching local, quirky and historical stories and turning them into memorable tunes.
Jon is the creator, author and illustrator of the loveable 'GULLY' a wicked cartoon seagull who has featured in 6 children's books as well as a few audiobook CDs.
If you click HERE you can treat the young'uns in your life to a book, CD or other Gully-related merchandise.
He doesn't just write for children though... His first novel 'NASTY PASTY' won the Holyer an Gof Award for Adult fiction and tells the tale of rival pasty makers. He is currently working on his second novel 'CATCHING CRABS'.
Jon has also got himself an acting credit for his lead role in the movie short 'BLACK CAR HOME' and is shortly to be co-presenter of a Channel 5 historical documentary on slavery. He also recently became a bard of the Cornish Gorsedh.
As if that all wasn't enough, Jon and artist wife Caroline (www.carolinecleave.co.uk) have run their lovely shop in Port Isaac for over thirty years. Boathouse (www.boathouseportisaac.co.uk ) is in the original village lifeboat house and is full of beautiful and original things designed and produced by them.’
FAVOURITE FISH: Anything my son George brings home; he runs his own Fishmongers business!
FAVOURITE SEA SHANTY: After 30 years of singing them ad nauseum, I’m not sure I ever want to listen to one again! But if you want a favourite song of the sea, I love Christy Moore’s ‘The Voyage’.
FAVOURITE PASTIME: Walking and loving the countryside, reading history, and trying to play golf.
FUN FACT: My ancestor Walterus Cleave was married in 1594 at St Kew Church, about 4 miles from Port Isaac and where we record all our albums.
